Overview
The Volunteering in Poverty-stricken Communities in Buenos Aires program focuses on working closely with a local community in the outer reaches of Buenos Aires that is underdeveloped and lacks basic amenities and services, such as running water or paved roads. Residents in these communities often do not have access to proper education, food or child care services.
The objective of this volunteer program is for volunteers to work directly with the local community in often challenging and semi-intense conditions in order to improve the overall situation and stability of the community.
Range of Responsibilities
Volunteers are needed to improve the quality of life in a local community by offering residents general aid, free daily meals, educational materials, health and safety advice, and child care, all from the grounds of a large community center.
Volunteers may be asked to assist in daily meal services, organize activities for the residents, assist in workshops regarding health and safety, and offer their services in a local day care where children in the community spend their day.
All volunteers in this program will be expected to lend their patience, time, skills, and abilities in order to improve the situation in this local community and improve the quality of life of its residents.
Example Tasks
Offer assistance in the following:
- Provide daily assistance to local residents
- Receive and organize shipments (food, clothing, supplies)
- Spend quality time with residents
- Assist in health and safety workshops
- Organize games and activities for children
- Take care of young children
- Helping with Spanish / English and reading with children
- Teach children about health and safety
Why this Project needs YOU
Poverty stricken communities surrounding Buenos Aires often lack the funding support needed to rebuild and progress. Community members are left without the resources provided to those in more fortunate situations, such as clean water, safe roads and methods of transportation, and adequate educational facilities for both adults and children. Those who choose to volunteer in these communities will be providing desperately needed assistance to the most vulnerable and forgotten residents in greater Buenos Aires.
