Insurance for Health & Safety
Expanish requires that all volunteers in our volunteer work programs in South America have international health insurance. Volunteers can show proof of international medical coverage through their local insurance company, or purchase worldwide health and travel insurance through Expanish's partner, CareMed International.
CareMed International
At Expanish we provide health and travel insurance through CareMed International for those volunteers who wish to purchase insurance with us. CareMed International offers two comprehensive insurance packages for those living, traveling, or working abroad, both at affordable rates. Each package includes medical, legal, and technical services, 24/7, all year long.
Whichever insurance package you decide to purchase, with or without Expanish, be sure to always carefully read the terms and conditions as well as the claims procedure. It is very important that you understand what your insurance will cover, eligibility, coverage dollars, destinations, claim processes, and more. Make sure to ask any questions you may have before purchasing insurance and be sure to check if you will be covered under your own family’s member plan as a volunteer in another country.
It is absolutely necessary to purchase a travel and health insurance package when traveling abroad for your health, safety, and mental state of mind!
Expanish & CareMed International Insurance

Details are as follows:
Monthly Premiums for CareMed Gold Package: $92.50USD
Coverage meets or exceeds all standard requirements for J-1 visa programs. Monthly premiums can be used for, but are not limited to: Au Pair, High School Exchange, Trainee, Internship, Language Programs, and Personal Travel; short or long-term policies with worldwide coverage. Early return reimbursement is possible.
Monthly Premiums for CareMed Bronze Package: $75.50USD
Coverage meets or exceeds all standard requirements for J-1 visa programs. Monthly premiums can be used for, but are not limited to: Au Pair, High School Exchange, Trainee, Internship, Language Programs, and Personal Travel; short or long-term policies with worldwide coverage. Early return reimbursement is possible.
