A casual stroll in the Buenos Aires streets.
Buenos Aires is a paradise for the casual stroller; the type of tourist that leaves their Lonely Planet at home and walks the city streets, the type that is always half-lost but yet always manages to find that perfect spot just off the beaten track. Here every corner might conceal the grand façade of a forgotten mansion or the aromatic invitation of a truly authentic café.
The atmosphere of Buenos Aires can be absorbed through the soles of the feet, whether you are passing over the uneven cobbles of historic San Telmo or the wide avenues of Palermo, the streets have a story to tell. This is a city in which it’s worth the while to forgo the bustle of the underground subte and take the scenic route, because you never know what you might stumble across.
A warning however to those that wander with their eyes fixed on the rooftops: the Porteño attitude to waste disposal can be a little suspect, and you would sometimes do well to watch your step. The litter that often clutters the sidewalks is an unavoidable feature of Buenos Aires streets, an eyesore and potential hazard for those with an expensive taste in footwear.
You can do more than just wrinkle your nose, skirt around the problem, and stroll on. As an Expanish Volunteer you can do more than just experience the city; you can improve it! With an environmental volunteer project you can help raise awareness about environmental responsibility and initiate a change.
