You are volunteering in Buenos Aires, learning Spanish, and touring the city, and need a relaxing night off, eating the best Italian food in the city (personal opinion).

Located in Las Canitas (between Palermo and Belgrano), is the charming Italian restaurant La Cucina de Michele. Never heard of it? That is because it a local secret, a favorite of those residents in Palermo, Belgrano, and Las Canitas, but not on the foreign word-of-mouth.

It is decorated in Italian style and is family run. It is not fancy but is not casual either, so make sure to ditch the shorts and t-shirt, and go for something with a little bit of style. The service is very family/friend oriented, meaning the server’s speak to you like a friend, will give you recommendations or truthful suggestions, and will not offer you a fake facade.

The menu has an incredible list of pastas, one better than the next, including traditional spaghetti and meat balls, to linguini with seafood, to cream/wine sauces to fresh basil to chunky tomato. They also have delicious traditional appetizers, each made with lots of olive oil, aromatic herbs, fresh vegetables, and flavourful cheeses.

If you need a night out at a great restaurant that offers great service, great food, and great service, plus is off the beaten-track, check out La Cucina de Michele.

Volunteering in Buenos Aires and Looking for a Restaurant that offers Natural Foods in the Big City?

Argentina is well known for its eclectic cuisine, a mix of Latin America, Italian, French, and Spanish influence, specializing in dishes like pizza, pastas, tapas, barbequed meats, cheese, wine and ice cream.

As absolutely dishes as these foods are, it is nice to have a break from the heavy plates and enjoy a light, fresh, and healthy dish once in awhile. Where can you enjoy natural dishes in Buenos Aires?

3 Great Restaurants Specializing in Natural, Health Food.

Demetria http://www.demetria.com.ar/

One of the nicest options, this restaurant specializes in healthy, mostly vegetarian, organic, fresh foods. They offer a large variety of salads, soya milanesas, and healthy dishes of both chicken and red meats, plus offer a variety of organic wines. The atmosphere is as natural as its food, a mix of earth tone colors with an adjoining garden.

Tea Connection http://www.teaconnection.com.ar/

This is located in the ultra hip neighborhood of Puerto Madero and has tea, food, and deserts to match. They specialize in fresh, organic teas, as well as salads, rolls, sandwiches, wok, and pastries. Fresh foods are delivered daily, and their fresh fruit smoothies are the best in the city. This restaurant/cafe also sells their teas, as well as items to make tea, serve tea, etc.

Tulasi http://www.tulasivegetariano.com.ar

This Indian, vegetarian restaurant is in the downtown area and creates some of the most authentic India/vegetarian foods around. Samosas, vegetable curry, and naan bread are just a few of the menu items, among many others. Every dish is vegetarian, made fresh, and can be eaten there or delivered.

For those of you who do not know, Buenos Aires is a city full of Italian immigrants, who came to this port city in the last century, and have much to do with why Buenos Aires is such a culturally rich city. The Italians influenced Buenos Aires in many ways including architecture, dialect, religion, intellectual thought, philosophy, and more, and carried on the many traditions and customs that have been in Italy for hundreds of years. Another thing, and some believe equally important, that they brought with them was beautiful, delicious, and scrumptious Italian pizza! And who better to serve you pizza than a restaurant that has been around since pizza first made its way to the streets of Buenos Aires.

Los Inmortales is a name known on the streets of Buenos Aires. This restaurant that opened its doors in 1950 and it has everything to prove it; housed in an old space, the walls are lined with antique photos of celebrities and entertainers that have gathered here over the years, and if you ask any server, they will be able to give you all of the names of their famous clientele. The atmosphere is ‘old-style porteno’ with few renovations over the past half century that it has been open. Their menu features more than 50 different styles of pizza, each perfectly cooked and layered with fresh ingredients and despite its famous name, Los Inmortales has continued to serve up each plate at affordable prices.

If you are in volunteering in Buenos Aires and want to experience a night of famous Italian pizza in a place of history, Los Inmortales is it!

Los Inmortales
Lavalle 746

If you are volunteering in Buenos Aires and you are looking for that perfect after work- affordable-night-out restaurant, here it is!

Las Cholas

Las Cholas, a very unique porteno/Argentine restaurant in the city, has become a dining gold mine with its two locations in Las Canitas and locatin in Palermo Hollywood. Local and foreigners flock to the parilla(Argentine barbeque) every night of the week to enjoy its services, atmosphere, and food. Here is why…

Atmosphere
Las Cholas has done everything right in each of its locations atmospheres; Wide open restaurants, high ceilings, low lighting, tables that seat anywhere from 2-10 people, colourful walls (green, red, yellow), paper table cloths with crayons, regional Argentine decorations, big bar, and visible big and beautiful parilla kitchen. If nothing less, visually, this restaurant is cozy, hip, unique, and most of all, welcoming.

Service
In Las Cholas, even when there is a line of 20 out the door, your server, drink, and food come to the table in a reasonable amount of time. The management has found the secret to good service: a load of people working on the floor and in the kitchen and friendly wait staff. Quick and friendly, what more could you want?

Cuisine
True to Argentina style, Las Cholas serves up a wide arrange of typical Argentine food, with a few exceptions (quesadilla, Caesar salad), and serves it up well. The meats, empanadas, asados, stews, hamburgers, salads, potatoes, provoleta, bread, etc, are all just as they should be and always consistent.

Price
Las Cholas is one of the most affordable of its kind in the city and will in no way break your bank! ($30-50/person)

We want to hear about your favourite restaurant after a day of volunteering in Buenos Aires!
