Volunteering; the New All-Inclusive Vacation Package

Over the past 10 years the world of volunteering has changed significantly, especially in the age group of many volunteers. If you thought that volunteering was for teens, recent graduates, or gap year abroad students, think again!
A growing number of people are ditching the all-inclusive or cruise ship vacation packages and opting to take more fulfilling, educational, and cultural trips. Also, the idea of focusing only on your own well-being while away, especially in third world countries, has decreased significantly and the idea of donating your time and skills and aiding others has shown up in its place.
In 2009, there has been an increase in volunteer abroad experiences with a majority resulting from those people who received early retirement packages due to the financial crisis, and now have the money, and time, to go abroad. Plus, with the disaster the financial crisis has caused, especially in Europe and the United States, people are looking for a way to escape, go abroad and help out in worthy and rewarding causes.
To accommodate this new brand of volunteers, volunteer placements have changed their required time abroad, now offering placements for as little as a few weeks and still ranging up to a year or more. This gives you the opportunity to spend as little or as much time as you please abroad in a volunteer placement. If there has ever been a time to volunteer abroad, this is it!
