Volunteering in Buenos Aires? A Few Helpful Reminders for On the Road!
Volunteering in Argentina is going to be the experience of a lifetime, check out the reminder’s below to help you out along the way.
Before You Go
Preplanning in one of the most important aspects of traveling abroad.
May sure you clean up all of your loose ends!
- Mail (who is picking it up)
- Bills, bills, bills
- Bank (using your credit card abroad, how to pay online, etc)
- Who is going to take care of the dog/cat/hamster?
Shop for everything you need well in advance of leaving
- This way, you can take your time and don’t have to buy everything at once, at any given price, and can take advantage of sales and promotions. (Things like a backpack, earplugs, sunglasses, alarm clock, etc…)
Make a plan
- Even if you are not the plan-making-type, try to at least have a rough idea of how you are going to spend you time abroad. After you volunteer placement in Buenos Aires, what are you doing to do? How long to you want to stay? Do you want to travel? -Think about it…
When You Are There
Just arrived to your volunteer program in Buenos Aires, what do you need to know now?
Figure out how to phone home
- This is important as you are going to want to home phone when you first arrive and during you volunteer experience in Argentina.
Bring a dictionary with you
- If you are not a perfect Spanish speaker, it never hurts to keep a dictionary handy for those times that you encounter translation/Spanish problems.
If you are germ-freak, keep handy wipes, baby wipes, or antibacterial hand lotion on you
- There will be times when there is nowhere to wash your hands, or no soap/running water available, etc, and something to clean your hands comes in very handy!
There is Internet everywhere
- There really is no need to bring you laptop or expensive MacBook with you on your volunteer program. This is entirely up to you, however keep in mind that there are internet/computer shops all over and it is easy to access the web. If you do a laptop along, make sure to always keep an eye it!
